Container and RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) are the two ways a used car leaves China by sea. The right choice depends on your quantity, destination port, and budget.
Once your car is bought and documented, it needs to get from a Chinese port to yours — and there are two standard ways to do that: container shipping or RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off). Buyers often assume one is simply cheaper, but the right choice depends on your specific situation.
The vehicle is loaded into a standard shipping container, either alone or consolidated with other vehicles to split the cost. Container shipping gives better protection from weather and handling damage, and is the standard choice for most of the destinations we serve, including Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. Consolidating 2-4 vehicles per container is the most effective way to reduce per-unit freight cost on multi-unit orders.
The vehicle is driven directly onto a specialized RoRo vessel and secured on deck or in a hold, without a container. RoRo is generally cheaper per unit for single-vehicle shipments to ports that support it, but the vehicle is more exposed during transit and RoRo service is not available to every port on our route map.
For a single unit going to a port with RoRo service, RoRo is often the lower-cost option. For multiple units, or destinations where container consolidation is available, sharing a container usually comes out cheaper per vehicle while offering better protection.
