Import Used Cars to Russia from China

Russian buyers ask us the same three questions every week: what does it cost to bring a used Chinese car in, which port should I use, and which models actually hold their value once they cross the border.

Import rules. Russia does not impose an age limit on used vehicle imports from China, but every unit is subject to the mandatory recycling fee (utilization fee), calculated on engine size and vehicle age. Left-hand-drive (LHD) cars clear customs without the extra paperwork required for right-hand-drive imports.

Ports & logistics. Most of our Russian clients clear through Vladivostok for Far East-bound stock, or St. Petersburg when the destination is Moscow or western Russia. Rail freight from our export yards to Vladivostok typically runs faster than sea freight to St. Petersburg — we quote both routes on request.

What sells. BYD and Chery SUVs move fastest in the Russian market right now, followed by GWM/Tank off-road models for buyers outside major cities. EVs (BYD Atto 3, Seal) are gaining traction in Moscow and St. Petersburg where charging infrastructure is expanding.
