Central Asia Import Guide: Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia

Uzbekistan's excise-plus-30% customs, Kyrgyzstan's re-export role and Georgia as the region's transit hub: comparing Central Asian used-car routes.

2 min read

Central Asia is a natural extension of the China used-car trade: short overland routes, growing fleets and buyers already familiar with Chinese brands. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia each play a different role, and the right choice depends on whether you are an end buyer or a trader.

Uzbekistan: the volume market

Uzbekistan permits used cars with no import age limit and combines an excise tax with roughly 30% customs, cleared by rail to Tashkent. The cost is calculated on assessed value, so a CIF estimate matters more than in flat-duty markets. See the Uzbekistan import guide and the Uzbekistan FAQ.

Kyrgyzstan: a flexible neighbor

Kyrgyzstan's role is often as a lower-cost entry point into the region's trading circuits. Buyers compare its total cost — duty, fees and onward movement — against direct import to their final destination before choosing a route. For specifics, pair it with the Kazakhstan guide since EAEU rules govern the whole corridor.

Georgia: the transit hub

Georgia functions as the region's transit and re-export hub, with a large used-car trading community and ports that connect sea freight to overland routes. Importers use Georgian clearance as a gateway before moving vehicles onward. It suits traders more than single-car personal buyers.

Rail versus sea

For Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, rail from China is the workhorse and usually the most economical. For Georgia, sea to its Black Sea ports is the natural route. The shipping guide compares the options in detail.
