French-speaking markets across Africa are among the fastest-growing destinations for Chinese used cars. Senegal, Cameroon and Morocco each have distinct rules, and the differences matter more than the language they share. This guide compares the three so you can choose the market that fits the car you want.
Senegal limits used cars to 5 years and charges customs duty plus 18% VAT at the port of Dakar. The rules are simple and predictable, which makes Senegal a good first market. Full details are in the Senegal import guide.
Cameroon allows cars up to 10 years old but applies an age-based penalty duty at Douala: the older the car, the higher the duty. That makes newer low-mileage stock more attractive even though older cars are technically allowed. See the Cameroon import guide and the Cameroon duty FAQ.
Morocco imposes a 5-year age limit and a duty that ranges roughly 2.5% to 17.5% depending on vehicle category, plus VAT, cleared at Casablanca. The category-based duty means the exact rate depends on engine size and model, so a CIF estimate is the reliable way to plan. Details in the Morocco import guide.
The same car that is fully eligible in Cameroon at 8 years old will be rejected in Senegal and Morocco, both capped at 5 years. This is exactly why we confirm age eligibility before any order. The general principle is explained in the age limit FAQ.
Wherever you import, the same safety rules apply: verify the exporter, agree documents up front and use a secure payment method. Our scam avoidance guide covers what to check before you pay.
