The Gulf Used Car Market: UAE, Oman and Jordan Import Guide

The UAE's 5% duty and re-export hub role, Oman's 5% customs and Jordan's high-duty structure: comparing Gulf destinations for Chinese used cars.

2 min read

The Gulf states are among the most active buyers of Chinese used cars, driven by low duty, strong trade infrastructure and fast-growing acceptance of Chinese brands — especially electric vehicles. The UAE, Oman and Jordan offer three different versions of this opportunity.

United Arab Emirates: the re-export hub

The UAE has no import age limit and a low 5% duty, cleared through Jebel Ali. It is the region's re-export hub, so a car imported here can be sold locally or moved onward to other Gulf markets. Demand for used Chinese EVs is strong — see the UAE EV FAQ and the UAE import guide.

Oman: low duty, growing demand

Oman applies 5% customs duty with no age limit, cleared at Sohar. It is a straightforward market with steady demand for Chinese SUVs and sedans. Full detail in the Oman import guide.

Jordan: high duty, strategic position

Jordan combines a 5-year age limit with high customs and sales tax at Aqaba, so the landed cost needs careful planning. It also functions as a transit corridor into the wider Levant, which matters for traders. See the Jordan import guide.

EV demand is the differentiator

Used Chinese electric cars — BYD, MG, NIO — are the fastest-growing segment in the Gulf, and the low-duty environment makes EV imports particularly attractive. Browse the electric options on our EV inventory or read the best Chinese EVs guide.
